Liverpool born Paul Kirkby began his career at the age of 14 years in the ‘Merseybeat’ boom of the ‘Sixties’ as a harmonica-playing lead singer in various Liverpool bands. . By the age of 18 he had graduated to his favourite instrument of bass guitar and was playing with several bands in a variety of musical genres from R n’ B to classic jazz. He left Liverpool to play in the great metropolis of London having spent several years touring Europe and Scandinavia with a top Liverpool country band and backing a number of American country stars on their European tours.
In London he joined American country rock band Cottonwood who were signed to Chrysalis Records and on leaving this band went back to his home town to work on an album for Warner Brothers featuring Liverpool singer songwriter Brian Farrell.
His career took him to the next logical step of record producer and Head of Production for an independent record label and as a freelance live-session producer for BBC Radio. He produced a wide variety of singles and albums in Britain and the USA encompassing country, blues, reggae, pop and rock musical styles and working with some of the finest US and UK session players in a wide range of studios. As a musician and sound engineer he has worked with such luminaries of the popular music scene as Chuck Berry, Long John Baldry, Slim Whitman, The Memphis Horns, George Hamilton IV, Willy Nelson, Dr Hook’s Dennis Locorriere, Lonnie Donegan and Hue & Cry to name a few. He was a founder member of the Ginny Brown Band and is co-writer of the original material. He and Simon Bishop now also perform together as The House Band and run a very popular Jam Night every Wednesday at the Red Lion, Linkfield Road, Isleworth, Middx. |
Simon Bishop Lead Guitar /Vocals
Simon was born in Hounslow, West London and is the newest member of the GB Band though he boasts over seven years of service with the outfit. His first major influence was country music and for many years he played with some of the top British country music bands touring all over the UK. He began to develop a greater feel and love for R n’ B and for many years now he has been one of the two main fronting guitarists for those well known West London rockers The Good Old Boys.
| ![]() | His reputation as a class act on either electric or acoustic has made him the first port of call for many an artist and band when they need a special something on guitar for their recordings. Most recently High Society, Renaissance and Willy Finlayson’s Hurters have drafted Simon in to add his touches of guitar magic to their recordings and live shows. In the meantime he still fits in the odd gig with the ‘Boys’ while continuing to deliver those searing guitar licks for the GB Band. He also features alongside Paul Kirkby in The House Band who run a successful Jam Night every wednesday night aat the Red Lion in Isleworth

Richard Hudson – drums & vocals
Richard Hudson, or “Hud” as he more usually known was born in North London and started his drumming career proper with the outrageous pop/rock band Elmer Gantry’s Velvet Opera. Several years later he and fellow Velvet Opera man John Ford joined the successful folk-rock band the Strawbs and penned their number one single “Part of the Union”. He and John left the Strawbs several albums later to form ‘Hudson-Ford’ and release a top selling album and chart single ‘Picking Up The Pieces’. With the advent of punk Hud went on to form The Monks, co-writing their hit single “Nice Legs Shame About The Face’ and the accompanying album which went platinum in Canada More recently he enlisted GB Band bassist Paul and the lady herself, Ginny to join Thirties style band High Society whose first single 'I Never Go Out In The Rain’ attracted great media attention and lead them to record numerous tracks for BBC Radio’s major strip shows. Hud joined the GB Band at the beginning and remains with the unit to this day but still manages to fit in the odd Strawbs Concert Tour. He has also worked with a variety of other major artists such as Dennis Locorriere, Slim Whitman and Rick Wakeman with whom he still appears in selected concerts. Hud can also be seen around London playing with rock n' roll band The Goofd Old Boys. | ![]() |
